The very first ODNG meeting was held at Custom Home Interiors this past Thursday evening. And I think it’s safe to say that both the turnout and the enthusiasm of everyone present exceeded expectations!! Over 25 people attended the meeting, which also included a blogging info session that I presented and wine & cheese afterwards.
The common thread as we went around the room and we each introduced ourselves is that we all want to find more clients and that we’re looking for ways to do just that. And we’re all in agreement that best way to accomplish our goals is by supporting each other and sharing our knowledge and expertise. Most of us are newbies to the business of design. We have the knowledge, ability, and passion, but we all want to improve our business skills. I’m really excited about where the ODNG will take us :-)

It's great to meet, greet, and share with like minded in the field. A great way to display skills is a design house or renovation project within the community. Articles or a blog specific to your area will increase exposure. Have fun with the journey.

You guys are doing such a great thing, I think this group is such a smart idea. Networking is an amazingly important thing for any business owners! I will admit that I am jealous and I wish I was in Ottawa! ;) Keep up the great work!

Sounds like a fabulous, and useful, get together among your peers! You know, it's coincidental that you mention the 80% business, 20% design. I've been planning on writing a blog post about my business being far more about the business and marketing aspect and a low percentage about the photography itself. I bet if I actually kept track it would be the 80/20. Great to stop by and I hope this continues to be a huge success.
Aww I wish I could attend. You know what you should do tho, try to get some keynote speaker in every now and again! Also, you should put any presentation type sessions on video for archiving, as well as podcasting so us out-of-towners can take part, too! :D
