My favourite shelter magazine is Livingetc from the UK. I’ve been buying it every month for about five years. Each issue is filled with cool decor items and beautiful homes from the UK and around the world.
I thought I’d start a regular blog feature called Lovingetc, showcasing some of my favourite items from each issue of Livingetc. Here’s the first instalment (I’m a bit behind on my magazine reading, to these are from the September 2010 issue). Let me know what you think!!
1. Like the Louis Ghost chair?? Then say Hello to Henry…
A modern take on the traditional wingback chair, The Henry is made from polycarbonate and is available in clear, smoke, black, or white. He’d look pretty handsome at the dining room table :-) (Available at EDC London.)
2. Think driving with the top down on a warm & sunny day is the ultimate driving experience? Well, then how about eating with the top down for the ultimate dining experience! Richard Elliot lives in a concrete & glass house in London’s Highgate Cemetery (hey, at least you know the neighbours will be quiet!!) The highlight of his cool home is a retractable kitchen roof.
Seriously, how awesome is that?! When the weather isn’t being cooperative, Richard can still eat under the stars because the roof is glass.
3. Ghost chairs, retractable roofs… so how about some Open Air cutlery? Designed by Maarten Baptist and available at Dutch By Design.
4. I’m sensing a theme here… The Air Lamp is made from one strip of super-thin wood veneer that’s bent and twisted to create a curvy lamp. Designed by Ray Power for Spanish manufactures LZF Lamps and available in finishes like white wood, cherry and beech veneer.
5. I love both this curved wall and the cool Le Pop wallpaper. It’s kind of retro and modern at the same time.
So what do you think — are you Lovingetc too?? :-) If you are, you can subscribe to the digital version of Livingetc at Zinio. 12 issues are $32.41 CDN. If you prefer the paper version, you’ll probably find Livigetc at your local Chapters. And you can check out the latest and greatest from each issue right here!!

Cool stuff Kelly. But don't you think someone who lives in a cemetery should have the ghost chairs in his kitchen? Seriously, that retractable roof is incredible, what an amazing place. Kat
Oh I need to subscribe to that magazine! Great post!
It´s so fantastic!!
I LOVE Louis Ghost chair!
Can I sugest BOCA DO LOBO brand! They have beautiful products!
I am loving this new feature!! I have never bought Living Etc., but you have converted me!
And that Louis Ghost Chair is amazing!
I also love LivingEtc which was my Domino replacement (until Lonny!). I subscribed to the digital version on Zinio and love that you can download to a local version on both MACs and PCs and there are both iPhone and iPad apps.
The digital versions also make it easier to share great photos on my blog without having to scan!
Are those ghost chairs actually comfy? Do you add cushions? What about in summer - shorts & skirts etc? Do you 'stick'?
love - love - love henry! living etc.... such a great resource, one of my blog sources for sure however, reference through http://www.housetohome.co.uk/
I've always the ghost chair. There's something about a very traditional chair done a very contemporary material that is so appealing. I've never seen a lucite wing back chair but I am loving it!
P.S. Thanks for commenting on our blog. FYI I've used a couple of programs to create those renderings. First I design and build the room in 3d in Autocadd. Then I print, trace, and scan. All of the color/texture is done in photoshop.
I'm embarrassed I haven't heard of this magazine but it looks inspiring so I'll have to check it out!
Thanks for the recommendations! I've been contemplating the Louis ghost chair lately and the Henry would be really fun!
I loved the new feature, Kelly ! I have not ever seen the mag but will look for it when I am in the UK in December !
I LOVE this Kelly! How fun, the cutlery...how whimsical! And that Henry chair?? Fab! This is going to be a really fun regular feature. I look forward to more! Happy 'short' week to you!

Great idea for a blog! I so love recaps .. too busy to spend time reading everything I should be reading so I appreciate the breakdown...some great choices to highlight too by the way ... look forward to this, once a month .. can't wait :)
The house of Richard Elliot is awesome. I enjoyed reading the article.
Why, hello Henry! I love that chair!
What a fabulous idea as you know my magazine reading is far from up to date... Livingetc is one magazine I would always steal from my sister when she came home from London...
