Black & white to the Hilt{on}

Oh, the irony — following up a post about colour with a post about black & white!!

I never thought I would ever have any reason to write a post about a Hilton sister on DesignTies… but never say never, right?! I was searching the Net for some Hollywood glam rooms, and came across pictures of Nicky Hilton’s home. Believe it or not, it’s actually not that bad!! A bit over-the-top, but in a not-so-bad way. Let’s start with her dining room:

Très chic, don’t you think?? I’m totally diggin’ the mirrored table – although it might be a bit weird seeing yourself looking down at your plate. But handy if you want to check to see if you have spinach in your teeth ;-) Loving those black steel-framed doors.

How about the living room??

To be honest, there really isn’t much I don’t like about it — just the TV over the fireplace isn’t working for me. And I’d replace those orange boxes with purple ones :-) I really like the tufted sofa, the throw cushions, the curtains, the chrome bar… and of course, the big white ceramic dogs on either side of the fireplace :-) And my current design crush is black steel-framed windows, just like these ones. FAB!!

Now off to a room that probably sees a lot of action (but we’re not that kind of blog!!!)

bedroom

First of all, I love the look of chandeliers hanging over bedroom night tables, so these pendants had me at hello :-) I would have hung them lower, though. And maybe gone with something crystal. Heck, she’s a Hilton, she can afford a couple of Schonbeks. How about the Da Vinci:

It’s a radiant entity composed of hundreds or thousands of Swarovski® crystal jewels, depending on the size of the chandelier. Go big or go home — get a pair with thousands of crystals!! Not only can it double as a disco ball for crazy Hollywood parties, but it’s also the world’s first dishwasher-safe crystal chandelier. Seriously. Don’t believe me?? Go here.

But back to the bedroom — when I was a kid, I LOVED my black patent leather shoes. Who knew there was such a thing as a black patent leather bed!! A bit on the kinky side, but hey, why play it safe?? The curtains could be better, I think… what about one of these black & white Candice Olson fabrics from Kravet:

Or Xanadu from Schumacher:

This Chanel tray was an antique store find… in the Hamptons. So probably not your average antique store!! Legs were added to the tray to turn it into a side table. If you like the look, I bet you could replicate it pretty easily.

So there you go, a glimpse into Nicky Hilton’s home. Do you like her black & white colour scheme?? Would you keep it strictly black & white, or would you add colourful accents?? And most importantly… do you want a black patent leather bed?!

Though I greatly admire a black and white palette (but like you, don't exactly love all the decor in each of these rooms!), I would never be able to resist a pop (or seven) of color in my own home. And I too loved my black patent leather shoes when I was younger!

It's a little too high style for me I think, so no, I wouldn't want a black patent leather bed. However, I would take a tiny bit of her money:)

It is a little much for me, but I do appreciate the design aspects. I agree - purple boxes!

Some of it's a bit much for me. I like her dining room chairs, the drapes and pillow in the living room, and the lights in the bedroom. I might want some bits of color in there, too.

My mil has a mirrored dinning table! Black and white are definitely growing on me - don't think I could decorate my house with them though. To stark for me.

You know, for our condo, I had originally planned to have our living and dining area totally in black and white. But then I found a small sectional that I fell in love with and it wasn't either black or white. So when I tried to buy strictly white and black to go with it, nothing was working. Hence, I ended up with a fairly neutral palette with black accents. That's okay -- this way I can continue to drool over other b&w rooms :)
The master bedroom in the condo is grey with yellow and mauve accents and the guest bedroom is all white with orange accents (I love the combo of stark white with orange orange). So much for my black and white -- guess I'll have to stick with black and white photos :~D

Hi Kelly, No I would not want a black bed, thank you very much... but I did appreciate many details in those images and you are so right:
curtains could be better and lights should be lower. Well done!

It's a bit too much for me too but there's definitely a lot of interesting elements that I could use on their own.

I really love black patent leather accessories! But i don't know about the bed, not cozy enough.
That said, there's a lot of interesting patterns.

I'm not really lovin' the black and white. I would want some color and warmth added.

I really like the black and white. Very 'glam'. O.k. so in my own house it's all about soft colours and warmth but my alter ego, the one that really likes that bed (hello, where's the mirror on the ceiling?), says bring it on with some whip cream and a cherry on top.

Black and white is a bit to stark and contrasting for me - I'd spice it up with some colour accents.

No patent leather bed for me -- but I do love the Shumacher fabric.

I had hanging lamps in my last bedroom due to lack of space - they were really handy - I'm not surprised you've gone for the bling though Kelly :)

Great post!

Love the chanel tray - and I would add turquoise to a black and white room! Love that combination!

There are definitely some things I like and others I would pass on but that is what is great about style and taste-you can make it your own.
