My cousin is getting married on Saturday, and she asked me to give a reading at the ceremony. As usual, I’ve procrastinated — but not totally on purpose, honest!! School work has been taking up so much of my time — creating 35 drawings (OK, I cheated, 32) and completing five assignments (including a full-colour room rendering) in seven weeks took a lot of time. Plus it sucked the creative mojo right our of me.
Now I have less than three days to figure out what to read, and I’m at a complete loss.
I need to come up with something FAST. How about a limerick?
There once was a girl from Nantucket…
Hahaha!! OK, no, maybe not. A poem?
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
This is the best I’ve got,
So it’ll have to do.
See, told you, no creative mojo.
But I haven’t been completely delinquent — my dress from Peach Berserk in Toronto has arrived. Yay!! Kingi Carpenter creates fun & funky patterns that she silkscreens onto any colour fabric that you want, so chances are every dress will be one-of-a-kind. This is the dress I picked — just a simple cotton dress:
And the pattern is Swingin From The Chandeliers in purple and pink:
I found a pair of pink metallic shoes*, and my toes are freshly-polished in bright iridescent purple:
I know, subtle ;-) But at least I won’t be naked when I’m standing in front of a church full of people with nothing to say… and it’ll be even better if I’m not naked AND speechless at the same time!!
So, my fantastically smart and talented and creative blog buddies, I need your help!! I want the reading to be fun and light-hearted and a bit unexpected. But it can’t include the word “scrotum” — I ran that one by my cousin and she poo-poo’d it. (On a side note, I did use the word “scrotum” in a speech at a friend’s wedding and I didn’t get struck by lightning or anything).
If you have something that fits the bill, please leave a comment and let me know!! And the sooner the better, because I’m just a tad stressed about this…

We had this reading at our wedding. It's a traditional Irish blessing. http://www.todays-weddings.com/planning/readings/irish.html. If you're not a fan of that one, there are a bunch of different readings, poems, statements on love and marriage that might fit. Good luck!
It will be ok Kelly! Good luck!! We are having a contest over at Primed4Design too, you & Victoria should enter! :) I heard this one at the last wedding I was at, I really like it-
"You Were Born Together", by Kahlil Gibran
"You were born together, and together you shall be forevermore. You shall be together when the white wings of death scatter your days. Aye, you shall be together even in the silent memory of God. But let there be spades in your togetherness. And let the winds of the heavens dance between you. Love one another but make not a bond of love. Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls. Fill each other’s cup but drink not from one cup. Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf. Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each of you be alone, even as the strings of the lute are alone though they quiver with the same music. Give your hearts, but not into each other’s keeping. For only the land of Life can contain your hearts. And stand together, yet not too near together, for the pillars of the temple stand apart, and the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other’s shadow."
Yikes I've got nothing. But good luck and do let us know what you end up reading - and I hope you include a photo in that smashing outfit!!
I wish I could give you a good poem but I just don't seem to have that knack.
Let me tell you though ... I love those shoes. Whatever you say you're going to rock in those gems.
cheers
Susan

Oooh! I like Donna's suggestion! I have to admit I am a bit blank too. I always like it when speeches have a few 'jokes' inter-mixed with personal touches, not too sappy. And not too many inside jokes no one else understands! But on another note, your dress is stunning and I just love the color combo. I hope everything goes really well, and that we get a good report back!
Nancy
You are hilarious...
Good luck ~~

Oh Kelly! I'm not sure about the speech, but you are going to look great!
A funny speech I once heard a best man give went like this...
"I once heard that a toast should last as long as the groom does in bed so here I go... Cheers!" and then he sat down!
It was pretty funny, but probably not what you are looking for!
Good luck!
I love the dress! You can find some funny readings here..http://www.weddingmagazine.co.uk/articles/receptions/341047/funny-wedding-readings.html Good luck with it! Rachaelxx
