Better Then Ever Deck Furniture!

Brian and I love sitting out on our front deck, drinking our morning coffee or eating a meal prepared on the BBQ, all while enjoying our view of the Fraser River and waving at neighbours as they walk past.

At the beginning of last summer we purchased a sweet little table and chairs – a teak-look set in a style that we both really like. The colour was great too… that necessary hit of orange that I love and have incorporated throughout our home. The photo below was taken when the set was new.

The thing about “teak-look” is that it’s not teak, a nice hard wood that wears wonderfully in the elements. So after one full summer & a little bit of autumn hanging out in sunny, rainy, hot and cool weather (they spent the winter stored in our attic) the finish on the wood has faded horribly, and the wood itself has even started to crack in spots.

So yesterday I pulled out some deck stain I had sitting in the basement, left over from my friend Kate’s out-door project – she gave it to me SURE that I’d find a use for it.

Well wouldn’t you know it? I did… she knows me so well! HaHa!!

Here, the table is done and I’m about to start on one of the chairs. What a great difference hey??! Even though it’s a bit of a drag to work around the slats, the table looked so terrific that I didn’t mind tackling the more nook-n-cranny chairs… you see, they fold so I had to make sure that whether closed or open, all wood was covered in the new stain. A lot of work, but worth it!!

Here’s a closer look at the table top… I LOVE how the original orange-ish stain peeks through in the sunshine!

The final results are FANTASTIC!

A perfect place to sit and enjoy a refreshing glass of lemonade!

I’ve promised my BC BlogGIRLS friend Nancy from Marcus Design an invitation to drink margaritas on my front deck and now I have a lovely place for her to relax!

Well… almost…

Take a look at my next deck project – I’m going to paint this horribly decrepit Adirondack chair, and it’s twin that sits next to it, in a lovely ORANGE! I lost the orange of my table and chairs when I stained them, but I’ll get it back in these two comfy chairs!! They’ll both look wonderful in orange with the new cushions I purchased for them!!

ButterflyI’m sharing this transformation with the readers of Between Naps on the Porch. Thanks again to Susan for hosting Metamorphosis Mondays, a phenomenally popular blog party!! Be sure to make your way back to the party for more before & afters!

Awww, I feel so lucky, thanks for mentioning our planned date Victoria!!! I can't wait to chill on your pretty patio with you. First off, your chairs and table look amazing, and I love the striped cushions you chose to pair them with. Second, the lemonade looks sooo tasty. So here's an idea, how bout I come help you paint your lovely chair orange and then we have drinks to celebrate a job well done?? And I'll bring treats too! ;) Great work as usual Victoria!

Your deck looks like such a perfect spot to sit and enjoy the sunshine and a lemonade. Your photo of the table looks like it's right out of a magazine - it's beautiful. Love it! Can't wait to see the chair painted orange I think it's gonna be perfect.

It looks like you get some nice shade on your deck, too, Victoria. Love the table and chairs set; it looks fantastic! Did you apply a poly over the stain or some protectant? Those adirondack chairs are going to look great orange. Can't wait to see them done!

Wow, your furniture looks great!
This was the perfect post for me...my teak-look porch furniture is in desperate need of a re-stain.
I've been procrastinating because I'm so great at procrastinating!
Anyway, yours look gorgeous and that's just the motivation I needed to get mine done.
Thanks!

I need to do the exact same thing with my outdoor table. I hope it turns out as well as yours.

Nice to see your deck set and know that somehow, someway you must be able to sneak some downtime from all of your projects... :) to enjoy a little r & r.

I have a little tip that helped me maintain my wood furniture. The product is called Helmsman protector. It's a satin finish to go overtop of your stain to keep it protected and looking good. It works like a charm, just make sure to give it a really good stir or it will be shiny.

Now if it were me I'd likely choose to enjoy a margarita with you... oh I wish.

cheers
Susan
