I really, really want rugs for my dining room and living room!
Of course I’m faced with frugal hubby’s fiscal management plans supporting his very logical insistance that we get our renovations completed before we purchase furnishings for the house. Don’t you hate logic?!
What I want for the dining room (right) is something graphic in a fresh green. Maybe a trellis design… or perhaps a quatrefoil design… or maybe a chevron design… or what about off-kilter stripes? Have I narrowed it down enough?
Here are a few pics of what I’m imaging…
LOVE this chevron print rug… now image it in a fresh green!
And… I’m CRAZY about these off-kilter stripes… in a fresh green of course!! This rug (and the sweet pets) belong to Nicole from Making it Lovely. That china cabinet in the background? Built in. How fantastic, hey? Be sure to head over to Nicole’s place and take a closer look!!
Which of these 4 designs to you like best?
For my living room… well, that’s a trickier decision!!
I’m lusting over this Weavers Art rug!
My living room and dining room are partially connected. What do you think about a graphic rug in one space and a patterned rug like the one below in the other?
The the pattern/design of the rug is a nice mix of traditional & contemporary style with a lovely and important touch of whimsy: perfect for the look I’m trying to achieve in my little house… and the colours are terrific, too.
Of course finding something like this in the right size for both of these rooms AND at the right price will be a challenge!
Believe me, I’ve been looking and looking for the perfect rugs. With the living room in mind = I’ve seen a few that I like, but nothing that I love enough to bring home.
With area rugs on the brain I decided to do a little internet searching to see what other kinds of rugs I could find to share with our DesignTies readers.
Which one(s) do you like?
A little Purple for Kelly!
To finish off this exploration post of area rugs, let me share another rug I found this evening that I could fall in love with for my living room… or maybe it’s the overall feel of the room, I can’t tell! Just my style.
Wish me luck in my rug search!!
Victoria

Your first choice is deliciously beautiful. I too have yet to find a rug that I love and can afford. It is so easy to just go the natural fibre way. Would love to see what you find on your rug trip today (which is Sunday evening here in Oz). A-M xx
Wow I just love that first rug and the second last one - absolutely stunning! Tracey xx
Good luck! I love several of those rugs you pictured above. The purple one has to be my favorite though. Let us know what you end up coming home with! And thanks so much for your comment on my family room post. I loved reading them so much!!
Such beautiful pieces of Art and craftsmanship.
Love the first one as well.
Wishing you success in your quest. -Brenda-
You found some gorgeous examples here. My favorite is the first one, but I really like the third and last one also. Good luck in your hunt, I know that you will pick the perfect rug for your room. Kathy
What great research results Victoria! I love the first and last ones as well, but for some reason I am really stuck on the traditional one from MacDonalds Rugs and Carpets. For some time now I have been drawn to brown/beige/blue combinations - and this one is a wonderful blend of all three. I think this is the one for my living room. Darn - I think I may have to spend my Sunday shopping for carpet too :o)
I definitely like the first one the best! It would be perfect in your house!
The Weavers Art rug is fantastic!! It took us FOREVER to find a rug we liked. But then one day there it was hanging in Homesense reg.$800 on sale for $175 (it had a dirt mark in the top corner) so we snatched it up and our sooooooooo happy with it (it's an oversized Damask print in blue and tan). If I could get all the toys and crumbs off it sometime, I may even post a pic.
The rug you love is so pretty. I think area rugs are great, but like you I have not found one I LOVE! Thanks for visiting my blog.
Great pictures of area carpets. I love the black and white durrie from living etc. I tend to go for persian carpets as they are timeless and wear forever. I have an antique runner from the 40's that I have had for 20 years and has heavy traffic and still looks like the day I bought it at auction. Good luck on finding just the right carpet for yourself.
Glad I don't have to choose! What a great selection. Super post, thanks for sharing.
Hi Victoria,
Your first pick is actually produced by Portland-based Lapchi (http://lapchi.com) and hand-crafted in Nepal- the design is called Broad Leaf and is based on an 18th-century English silk fabric.
Great choice!

i am dying to show you a pic of my homesense rug. sometimes getting one of these home makes all the difference.
I am going for the pale blue 'McDonald' one as I can never go past blue and of course I want the sweet pets too, sitting on it !
Oh I love that quartrefoil pattern in fact I am looking for two area rugs - one for my family room and one for my living room so this post was perfect timing for me!
Love the quatrefoil patterned one as well or I just love simply shaggy rugs, so cozy on bare feet!
Wow! Lots of great options here! I would say, for your dining room, I like the trellis design one in green. I just think it would really classic. As for your living room, the first photo (Source Unknown) really grabbed me. There is something about that pattern and those colours that I just love!
I love them all but lean towards the strong graphic prints. After all its a dining room and lets face it - spills happen. The more graphic the print the easier it is to hide a stubborn stain ;)
You have such beautiful bright colours in your home that it should be easy to match up the colours in your rug. Hope Brian edits his plan so you can call your dining room complete and fall in love all over again!
We need another visit & catch up soon!!

very beautiful sofa sets, i really like the one white one with the rocking chair, the book case is also very beautiful, very good decor ideas - i like all the pictures a lot
I think rugs can make a room. Love the green trellis one and the one from Weaver's Art beautiful. (Don't you hate frugal husband''s!!)
The rug in the brown and turquoise dining room from Canadian House & Home is my absolute favorite of all the rugs you showcased. It's just the perfect combination of fun/interesting and symmetric. LOVE IT!!
