Why, yes — the Color Marketing Group selected purple (specifically Mardi Grape) as the colour of the year for 2010.
And Pantone’s pick for the 2010 colour of the year is Turquoise.
Hey, take a look at our blog header… who knew we were trend-setters when we debuted our new blog design last summer!! ;-) Thanks Katie!!
If you’re a regular DesignTies reader, you know that purple is my favourite colour. It’s been my fave colour ALWAYS. So even when 2010 is over and purple is relegated to the trash heap of colour, it’ll still be my #1 :-) And I also really like turquoise. The post I wrote about turquoise back in June 2009 is our most popular post ever. So lots of you must like turquoise too!!
I think purple and turquoise look fab together. If there’s ever been a time to be brave and decorate a room in your home with purple & turquoise, this is it!! Come on, give it a try!! Here are some pics to inspire you…
Is it time to redecorate your bedroom?? Aubergine and deep turquoise is dark & dramatic:
Prefer a light and airy bedroom?? No problem, go with lavender and pale turquoise :-)
Pale turquoise looks great with dark purple too…
Or maybe bright & bold is more your style…
Jamie Drake uses fab colours in his designs — including turquoise and purple. This is the dining room in his New York City apartment…
Kelly Porter at Color Sizzle created a beautiful office in her home using a lavender, aqua, and chocolate colour scheme…
Love this cabinet knob and finial from Susan Goldstick, Inc. (pics from Creative Home Expressions)…
Purple & turquoise beads…
…and glass…
Yummy!!
My two favourite buildings in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia…
Getting married in 2010?? Why not choose a purple & turquoise colour scheme…
So go ahead and have some fun with purple & turquoise this year :-) But don’t do this:

Beautiful! I had no idea how great these colors could look together. That second bedroom just makes me sigh. And the glass bowl - gorgeous! I'm off to google Steider Studios, now look what you've done lol. Kathy
I LOVE both of these colors and together just love them even more. That Lennoxx bedroom is just my style - love it!
It looks great together! I love the second bedroom you have pictured, and Kelly Porter's home office looks great ~ I need to visit that post. Thanks for the mention, too! : )
ooh, ooh! maybe you have an idea for me, given your affinity for these colors. I just bought purple sofas and now i need the perfect rug
Any thoughts?
I adore both these colours!
I love purple and turquoise together! Although, I can imagine the look on my husband's face if he came home one day and our bedroom was suddenly no longer earth tones! heehee
I adore that building on Mahone Bay! Love that. Lots of really nice bedroom photos -- the channel 4 one is likely my favourite.
Does it count that I already knew last year that purple was the 'in' colour??? :) One of the colours chosen for my logo is turquoise. The bad thing is, one day turquoise will be 'out'. Darn. :)
How awesome is that purple house!
Have a Happy New Year!!
As soon as I read the title of this post - I knew who wrote it!!!
I love both colours (not as much as Kelly though - I don't think anyone loves purple as much as Kelly!). We are currently undergoing long awaited renovations in our guest room and the walls will be a pale blue/turquoise/grey (BM's Silver Marlin) and now that I've seen this post, I'm thinking that adding a little bit of purple would be a nice addtion.
Thanks for the inspiration Kelly!
Wow Kelly I love it. I would never have thought about these color combinations but after looking through the photographs, I think I'm going purchase a turqoise rug for my girl's room rather than the black. Her walls are purple as well, her bedspread is black and purple...I wonder...
Wow, love that combo! I am so feeling jewel tones right now :) Just found your blog; lots of fun!
That second bedroom made me sigh happily. This post is beautiful all over, I love these two colours. Great inspiration pictures, Kelly!
P.S. You know you want to get your hands on a pair of snazzy pale aqua pants. ;)
NICE...
Love, love the channel 4 bedroom.
Who knew what great color combinations those two great colors would make! Great post!
Happy New Year, Kelly! Well, you know I'm excited about this!!! Totally love both of these colors {as you already know} and I can't wait to see more of this combo in 2010. Thanks for the mention, too!
HAPPY NEW KELLY ...... and VICTORIA!

LOVE the wallpaper in the first photo!! Have you gotten a package in the mail this week?? OH, I have tried emailing Katie (the button girl) about some new buttons...do you know if she is still in business? If not, any recommendations for a button girl?
Happy New Year!!

Awesome pictures! So glad I found your blog. I'm looking for some wall art to put up in my house.. the removable design decals similar to your second picture (the light and airy room), but less girly. Any suggestions? :)

Here is too a fantasitc 2010 filled with all that great purple!! Happy New year to you and Victoria !!
