I’m re-invigorating this post for the “Trash to Treasure” blog party over at Kimm’s place, Reinvented! Be sure that you make your way over there so that you can see all the other treasures being showcased today… AND so that you can enter into Kimm’s giveaway for a $25 Home Depot gift card!! YOU know you want it!!
I woke up to a beautiful, warm sunshiny morning and I wondered what I’d do to fill my day. Lots of great things came to mind… shopping for a new pair of sandals, walking on the sea wall around Stanley Park, going for lunch with a friend… or maybe all of these things!
Then, just as I was formulating a plan for my day, Brian started making banging and sawing noises…
How can I go out – guilt free – and enjoy my day while poor Brian is slaving away, installing a new window?!
Besides… truth be told, I have quite a list of projects that I want to accomplish this summer. And you know? I LIKED the idea of working on one of my projects!! Then I remembered that I didn’t have a transformation to showcase on Susan’s Metamorphosis Monday blogparty!! Oh no!! That sealed the deal… I gathered my gear and got to work!!
So what’s my project?
These simple, mid-century modern stacking tables were handed down to me from my Grandma. I’ve been carrying them around with me for years… and for years I’ve wondered why. They’re in horrible condition!
The thing is, even though I’ve wondered what to do with them and even though they’re showing years of neglect and wear… I love them. I love the simple line, I love the memories I have of playing with them as a child (stacking and unstacking them… for some reason they intrigued me!), and I love that they were my grandma’s.
So I decided to paint them.
I’ve been taken with painted furniture for some time. In fact, I have several pieces that I intend to paint… but those are stories for future posts! Here… take a look at some inspiration photos.
Lovely, aren’t they??!!
Okay, enough playing around! I really AM avoiding work, hey?!
First thing I did was sand each of the tables…
I rubbed and scrubbed, but I just wasn’t happy with the results. That’s when Brian – who was finished installing the window (he still has to trim it… he’ll do that tomorrow) – suggested we head to Canadian Tire and buy a hand-held sander. Excellent!! So… off to the store we go…
And we bought a cute little “Mouse”:
Let me tell you… I LOVE my Mouse! It worked like a hot-damn!!!
Now I was ready to paint!! What colour you ask?
A deep, beautiful barn-red called “Sundried Tomato” by Benjamin Moore.
I know… crazy! But we love it!!
They’re so lovely all dressed in Sundried Tomato red!!
The tables aren’t quite dry… but because I was anxious to share with DesignTies readers, I carefully stacked them (actually… they slide into one another) so that the paint wouldn’t scratch and I gently placed a vase of flowers on top. What do you think?!
So where will these lovely tables eventually live? My plan is to put them down in our family room… when it’s finally built!! I’m envisioning a room of brown & tan with red accents, and these tables will be a prefect addition!
I hope you like my the metamorphosis of my stacking tables… from worn to RED!
Now make your way back to Between Naps on the Porch and check out the transformations showcased by Susan’s many terrific Metamorphosis Monday blogparty guests!!

I really like those tables, and I LOVE the color you chose. And the window is looking gorgeous! I can't believe all that you are getting done this summer. You must be the energizer bunny of BC! Kathy
I love them. The color is great and they will be so useful around the house.
Hi Victoria, love those photos of the inspiration room. Great pop of color! Your nesting tables came out fabulous in red! Love your new window. Brian did a great job installing the window!
Thanks for sharing!
Tina

They're so pretty - I just love painted furniture. That red was spot on! Great job!
I love your red tables - they are fantastic. What a fantastic Job.. and you have proof that you did them yourself !
Thankf for great post
V
Gorgeous tables - I love Sundried Tomato!
Great job!
Fabulous colour! You also could have avoided the sanding step by using a 1 hour (quick dry) oil based primer! This is certainly a way to avoid the chemicals though!
Great job Victoria!
Maria
Love all your changes oh % hubby just informed me that we have a mouse too? It's battery operated I cannot wait to use it!
Blessings,
Linda
Victoria,
You and Brian make a great team! I'm so excited to see your projects! Everyone has them and you both look like you're enjoying the process. Cool!
I will come back to see the finished tables and the trimmed out window.

Victoria, I cud NEVER LIVE WITHOUT MY 'MOUSE'. Aren't they the handiest? I highly recommended one to a close friend of mine who had several reno projects to do, and she actually wore hers out. Upon a trip to a repair shop, the owner who was somewhat amused by its condition, said to leave it in his capable hands. Three weeks shortly thereafter, two brand-new ones were received, compliments of Black 'n Decker. Apparently they had never seen one so worn out and took pity upon her. :)
Your tables look absolutely marvelous! Three big cheers for THE MOUSE and of course for YOUR CREATIVTY. -Brenda-
Very nice, Victoria! I was wondering how you would choose a color with all those beautiful inspiration pictures. A nice way to keep something in the family, yet bring it up-to-date!
Liked this so much. So glad I checked your site out.
Met Monday is great! I posted for the first time this week.
Blessings to you from Kansas,

The mouse sanders work so well, I think I've almost worn mine out! Love the color you chose to paint the tables, in fact 1 of my favorite colors!
I'm a crazed "gotta have red in every single room" addict, so I absolutely love them! What a great job. Grandma would be quite proud.
Brenda
Great job! I think the red is a great color choice. It's a nice pop of colour and it seems to pick up the color of some of the tiles in front of your fireplace.

I love it when somebody else paints their furniture! I've never seen tables like thess. They are so elegant and practical. Great job. Thanks.
Your metamorphasis looks great~ well done.
Have a blessed day!
Thank you, everyone, for the positive comments about my nesting table's transformation! Brian and I are really happy with the Sundried Tomato red and we're both looking forward to using the tables in our new family room... once it's built!!
Brenda - Great story about your friend and her Mouse!! Got a chuckle out of that!
Victoria
Once you have a mouse you can never go back to hand sanding again,(unless you really have to because it doesn't suit the job, and if you are like me you will complain the whole time.)What a great result. I hope you put a big cross through this project on your list.
What a great job Victoria!
I'm doing a similar job myself (checkn for it in a future post) and couldn't have done it without my mouse sander. I love Sundried Tomato - used it in a dining room reno and it turned out gorgeous!
I love reading about your projects - inspirational!
Victoria - since you are a designer and picked out this fabulous red, I'm copying you! I have a cabinet and small table to paint that will be on my screened in porch, and I think this is the color I will use! I am HORRIBLE at picking out paint colors! Your tables are AWESOME!

Looks terrific Victoria. I too have a B&D mouse, it's a life saver. Tell the hubs the window looks great too!
Victoria,
Really love how the tables turned out. I'd like to see your finished window snaps as well!
Great feature projects.
Bette
They look amazing...great job! And thanks for the lovely inspiration pics...pure eye candy.

Beautiful! I love that red, they'll look great wherever you decide to use them! Thanks for linking up to Trash to Treasure Tuesday, please add a link to REINVENTED in your post so that your readers can see all of the projects, thanks!
The red looks great! I love the pop of color.
The red looks good. The vase is perfect on the tables, it really accents the tables exceptionally well.
I hope you will come by for a visit and stay awhile.
Its So Very Cheri I also have a party on Mondays called the Knock Off Knock Out go check out some amazing projects.
