Off to Colour School…

Kids%20getting%20on%20school%20bus

…and I start tonight!!

One of our favourite bloggers – Maria Killam from Colour Me Happy – posed the question to her readers: “Do You Want to be a Colour Expert?” As I read the title and content of her post I found myself saying “YES!” out loud! HaHa!! To be a colour expert though, means heading to night school with Maria as the instructor (Colour Theory, Vancouver Community College). color wheel claire l evan

Do I have what it takes to become a Colour Expert? If anyone can teach me, it would be Maria!!

So… I’ve taken up the challenge. Yikes!! :-)

Colour Triangle

There’s no doubt that this course will be a challenge, but it’s going to be so interesting, too! I’m so looking forward to learning about the meanings of different colours, complimentary colours, gradations, undertones (dreaded undertones!)…

More specifically, Maria writes that I’m going to learn how to create colour palettes as well as the 3 ways to describe colour. We’ll also learn about a variety of decorating styles like traditional, French Country, transitional (etc.) and the colour schemes that may best suit the style.

And while I’m definitely looking forward to learning everything Maria has to share about colour, I’m really looking forward to the portion of the course where we get to do an on-site consultation with a real client! Daunting but exciting all in one!

How cool with this course be??!!

Maria!! I’m all ready to go…

I have my supplies (okay, not really because Maria will give us our supplies list tonight, but I might have to by myself a mega-pack of colourful crayons just for the fun of it!)…

…and I have my yummy teacher’s bribe ;-)

I’ll post every few weeks with updates and thoughts on what I’m learning and experiencing!

Fingers crossed I pass the course!! The apple should help :-)

Good luck with your course Victoria! When I was in school we had to find magazine pics and "create" the colours with paint using ONLY pure red, blue, yellow, black and white. It gives you a great sense of the undertones and how the colours interact with each other when you do it like that. It was a bit of a pain, but well worth it. Hopefully your teacher gives you a similar exercise. I'm sure you'll do great!
